On the 8th day, they rested...
and Siena (horse-race/largest Tuscan town-town). Now adept at navigating all of Toscana using a zoomed out regional map and relying on the impressively helpful road-signs, we conquered each new territory with ease. ----An example of a helpful sign, and an unhelpful one----

We sampled many cheeses in Pienza while conversing at length with a friendly store-owner who was afraid to travel to the USA (language barrier), though she admired it through sitcoms and movies :)
Siena brought back memories for Tony, as he spent 3 weeks there prior to settling in Firenze for his study abroad in 2002.

Em and Tony literally laid in the huge central 'square' for hours (in between meals) and took in the mix of tourists, students, and locals.
Siena displays a great affection for 'the walking hour' tradition (prior to dinner-time), and we loved seeing the streets fill with passers-by. Dinner was by far the best economical-deliciousness yet. Zucchini and eggplant appetizer; pastas with saffron/squash sauce; vitello (veal); and Vin Santo (tasty wine-liquor, one of Tony's favorites when dunking with biscotti).
